now and then
ripples on the lake—
overhanging limb
dust
swirling in a sunbeam
glimpses
of my life
in each particle
catch
of
the
day—
a
cat
rattling
the
garbage
pales
ping
pong
ball
bouncing
the
cat’s
head
(too )
ice bay water—
a blue crab’s bubble
floats to the surface
glint
of
a
matador’s
sword—
the
ripening
of
grapes
daybreak—
the
tiniest
ant
crawling
from
a
white
rose
claws up!
a
fiddler
crab
shuffles
sideways
at
low
tide
creaking through
the woodwork
old lovers,
these twisted thorns
forever in our thoughts
sun
radiating—
stretches
of
barbed-wire
fence
along
the
misted
road
